That's not surprising since the world conditions are causing more and more people to live under greater and greater stress. That really sucks. What really sucks is that none of these people are really sick, diseased, or devastated. Or at least, they don't have to be that way.
It really is all in their heads. Think I'm wrong? Consider this quote from Abraham, which affirms what I, as a doctor of Chinese Medicine, have seen to be true:
"Everything is mind over matter. Every disease is mental first. Everything is about thought ... Everything is about the way you feel."
It sounds almost too trite, too simple to be true. But true it is. Don't believe it? Check out this example.
Emotional Stress and Walking Pneumonia
One of the people I counsel developed a deep case of pneumonia this winter. Since we are having the coldest winter on record in 100 years here in Colorado, his condition could easily be attributed to the weather. However, the speed of his recovery would say otherwise.
To begin with, his pneumonia was so severe that he ended up in the emergency room in the middle of the night. After a battery of tests and a bill for $4,500, the man was diagnosed with pneumonia and sent home with medication. Unfortunately, all the medication did was to ease some of his symptoms. He made no actual progress toward recovery.
After dealing with this situation for two weeks, with no actual healing, he called me since he was puzzled and more than a little disturbed. Once we discussed his situation for a while, it came out that he had been under a lot of emotional stress because of his financial situation.
Having lost his job, he was now working two part-time jobs for less money, and felt he had taken a big step down in the world. His emotional stress wasn't so much about working hard, but more about his sense that he was not being as good a provider for his family. The stress came from a sense of loss of his self-worth.
Once he realized that he was actually being an excellent provider to his family -- being that he was not only still employed but willing to work harder than ever to provide for his family's needs in tough times -- he felt much better about himself. He began to see that his efforts made him a better man than he had been, when economic times were better.
Once he released the mistaken belief that working two lesser-paying jobs made him a lesser provider, he began to feel much better about himself emotionally. Once he felt better emotionally, he recovered from his pneumonia symptoms within a few days. The change was pretty astounding given that two weeks of strong medication had done little to heal his physical illness.
Now it's true that any self-respecting physician could say that the medication finally kicked in, which is what finally restored him to wellness. But I don't, and never have, believed that. The change in my friend's mental and emotional state, paired with his dramatic recovery, were too closely linked to be "coincidence" or chance.
Is Sickness Really All in Your Head?
If you're hacking up a lung or doing the Technicolor yawn into your toilet, chances are that you are not going to believe that your illness is just "all in your head." And that's true. Once sickness has manifested in your body, it's no longer just in your head, but it did start there.
In other words, the cause of illness or any physical discomfort always starts with your thoughts and feelings. Sickness is just a physical signpost that tells you something's not quite right in your head. Whether you are suffering from a mistaken belief about yourself or your life, like my friend, or you are living in an intolerable situation with too much stress, the bottom line is this:
Until you remove the source of stress, you will continue to be sick.
It's as simple as that. Treating the symptoms of whatever illness you have is fine because it makes you feel more comfortable. Ultimately, though, if you want to happy and healthy on a permanent basis, you have to fix cause of the illness in your head and heart.
How Do You Fix What is In Your Head and Heart?
This is where you get to make the choice that suits you best. For some people, it is a dramatic life change that might include moving to a new city or changing jobs. Others might choose counseling, 12-step work, or therapy.
Once of the simplest solutions I have found is to eat high-vibration foods. What are high-vibration foods? They are foods that are grown with care, such as organic vegetables you lovingly grow in your own garden, or foods that are naturally high in vibration, such as blue-green algae, spirulina, and certain herbs.
In fact, the more primitive the food, the longer it has been on the planet, the higher the energy it seems to possess. This is certainly the case with blue-green algae as well as certain kinds of seaweed.
The bottom line is that if you are sick and can't get well, focus on what in your head and heart as well as what's going on with your body. When you get your head screwed on straight, or when you follow your heart's desire, your body will follow easily into health.
So yeah, I really do believe that sickness is all in your head ... or at least it starts there!
What about you?
