Fasting High Blood Sugar a Problem? Cinnamon Can Help

According to my doctor, levels of 100 to 125 mg/dL are considered high, although not high enough to be classified as diabetic. That was my fasting high blood sugar range.
Although my doctor, a wonderfully accommodating person, wanted to put me on medication, I was hesitant to accept it. Instead, I prefer to use natural methods to solve my health issues. In this case, I did only one thing, which helped a lot: I added cinnamon to my diet.
Cinnamon's Effect on Fasting High Blood Sugar
I have long known about the positive effects the herb cinnamon has on blood sugar or, in my case, fasting high blood sugar. Cinnamon helps the body to better use the insulin it already produces, so that the body doesn't overproduce, which can lead to insulin-resistance, metabolic syndrome, and eventually diabetes.
According to the US Department of Agriculture, studies show that about a half teaspoon of cinnamon per day causes a significant improvement in blood sugar levels. Accordingly, I mixed up my own tincture of cinnamon, which I added to my coffee each morning.
Three months after starting the cinnamon regimen, I went back to have another blood test. I was pleased to discover that a fasting high blood sugar level was no longer a problem for me. In fact, my fasting blood sugar level had dropped by 27 points, which astounded my doctor! She was even more amazed when I told her that I had only added cinnamon to my diet.
Cinnamon's Other Beneficial Effects
If you have high blood sugar, cinnamon is definitely an herb you should consider taking. But cinnamon also has other great healing properties. It is said to have anti-bacterial properties, and help the body ward off everything from urinary tract infections to food poisoning. It is also useful in supporting cardiovascular care and healthy blood pressure.
Although I take my cinnamon in a tincture, most people prefer to take it in capsule form, where the bark has already been cut, sifted, and powdered. But whichever form you take, if you have any of the problems mentioned in this article, including fasting high blood sugar, cinnamon is the herbs for you!

Warming Herbs for Winter

Siberian Ginseng Root (eleuthero root): This warming herb is also a great immune system stimulant and can give you an extra boost of energy on cold mornings.
Cinnamon: This spice has long been added to mulling spices and hot cider. No wonder! It was incredible warming properties and also helps you resist disease and infection.
Ginger Root: Known as the "Herb of the Gods" to some Native American tribes, Ginger is a warming herb that also has been shown to kill the influenza virus.
Chicory: This herb, which grows abundantly in this area, warms the body as well as well as helping with digestive problems, skin eruptions and constipation.
Cardamom: This herb has been used since ancient times in coffee, as a digestive aid and as a teeth whitener. It's also a great warming herb!
Cloves: In addition to warming, this herb fights intestinal parasites, fungi and bacteria. Ancient Chinese emperors held cloves in their mouth to mask bad breath!

Cinnamon � A Natural Holistic Source of Health
When you think of cinnamon don't you think of spiced cider, a topping for hot chocolate, and a great baking ingredient? Cinnamon is all of those things, but it's also an incredible substance that is a natural holistic source of health benefits. The kudos for cinnamon are many.
Did you know that cinnamon actually kills food-borne microbes like E-Coli? According to Phytotherapy Research (November 13, 1999) in laboratory tests, cinnamon proved to be a potent neutralizer of microbes, particularly of common food-borne microbes such as Escherichia coli (E. coli). How can you use it as a "Mr. Clean" for your food? Since cinnamon is a natural holistic spice, all you have to do is add it to your food. Sometimes nature provides the best medicine for our ills in the form of whole foods.
